I wanted to do a digital collage, because I enjoyed making them the most. At first, when I first learned to use PhotoShop, I didn't really like it. I was really bad at it. But now, I've gotten alot better at using PhotoShop, and I enjoy using it.

The most compelling aspect of PhotoShop to me is how the final outcome looks. You take five different pictures and turn it into one. I love the way you can place any picture into any background you want, and then add different special effects to make it look unique and complex. That is so compelling to me.

Ecce Puer by James Joyce is the poem I decided to make my collage of. Ecce Puer is about the continuation of generations. I symbolized this through my collage. My background is a picture of clouds. To get the extra glassy look that it has, I used a glass fliter and also added a Gaussian blur to it. I decided to use the glass blur because the word glass is used in the poem.

This poem is all about how someone feels. Their thoughts inside their head. To symbolize this, I put the closed eyes at the bottom of the collage, instead of at the top or in the middle. Now when you look at it, you can understand the he is thinking of these events. The clouds are even shaped in a way, so you can see a face and thought in the brain.

I placed the picture of the father holding up his son in front of his head because, that is his main focus. He is thinking of his wonderful creation that he has created. The image has a 78% opacity. I did this bercause it is just a thought. Thoughts are nver fully clear.

In the right top corner, there is a image of an old man. He is watching over the young father and child. He is the young father's father. He is further into the clouds, because he is in heaven. The opacity in this picture is 63%.

My last picture is a picture of a tree. It is suppose to represent generation. Like the tree of life. The branches go in a circle to represent the circle of life. Continuation of the generation. I placed this more into his thought and out of the clouds, because it is a regular to think about your family. This image has a 58% opacity.

I also added text to my collage. I chose 3 sentences, that are from the poem, that stood out to me. "Calm in his cradle," has a text twig on it. I selected the flag text to make it swirve like that, as well as, doing some free transforming.

The second text says, "unclose his eye." To get this text to look stretched out, I gave it a wind filter. I really liked the way it looked, so I did the same for the the text that says, "forgive your son." The forgive you son text is turned veritcally. I did this by using the free tranforming action and turned it vertically. This text has a 69% opacity.

There is a big difference between this collage and my first collage. My first collage was very dark. This one is much lighter. I think this collage has much more meaning towards the poem, than my first collage. Eventhough, I spent alot more time on my first collage, I like my new collage better Now that I understand the PhotoShop program, the process was much more faster and easier. I enjoyed making my final project!

1. title
2. innovation description
3. one sentence that captures the author's main point
4. three pieves of evidence that supports the author's main point

Say Bye to Bye By

Chrissy Hines is a new scientist who has created a new chemical mixture to purify water. The new mixture, named Bye By, is suppose to wipe out any and all diseases, germs, or organic gunk in the water. Allgood states that after testing this product with many different water samples, it proved that the water was all cleansed. What they don't know about Bye By is that it could kill you in the long run.

Bye By was made to purify nasty waters and kills everything. The chemicals can also even fight off any diseases that are in your body. But, after researching the Bye By pill, I have found that if you do not have any germs or diseases in your body, the chemicals will start to eat through your body.

Bye By is made of chemicals like blench, chlorine, and sigine. Sigine is a new chemical that is put into poison to kill insects and animals. If a human takes in too much sigine they can die. Many do not know this, or even care, since they have fresh clean water to drink. Also, if you use the Bye By pill to purify your water in the heat, the chemical balance in the water can be corrupted. This can cause minerals to stay in the water and no purification. Many also don't know, that if you place more than one pill in the water, all chemicals will remain in the water.

Bye By is a great new innovation that has wonderful uses in today's world, but if I were you, I would say bye bye to Bye By.

Intelligent Agents that I visted were ALICE and ELIZA. I enjoyed the conversation with ALICE more than the conversation I had with ELIZA. ELIZA asked too many questions and she would not answer my questions. She seemed more like a robot. ALICE is a fun robot to talk to. She answered all my questions and had some funny responses. She was more modern than ELIZA. She used slang at times, and she could keep a good conversation. She remembered many facts about me, like what my name was, my age, my height, and things that I liked. I only stayed in ELIZA's room for about 3 minutes. I was chatting with ALICE for about 20 minutes.

A 3D site I visited was called digital space RATAVA'S LINE. I didn't really enjoy this site. I didn't understand it at all. This is a fashion site, I think. The 3D clothing that was shown was really ugly to me.

I think I liked the gaming the best. I had at of fun playing the games. I did puzzles, word searches, played cards, and many other fun action games. Some of the games were in 3D and some of them weren't. This was my favorite because I had interaction with it. It wasn't me just talking to a robot or anything. It was just me playing on the computer. It was lots of fun!

I also really like yahoo chat. Like ants following their own pheromone trails back home, robots can be fitted with special quartz crystal microbalance (QCM) sensors to detect and follow specific chemicals along the ground. With the ability to sense particular odours in this way, the applications of robots will stretch yet further. For example, swarms of robots could move together without colliding by avoiding the "smell" of their neighbour.
http://www.abc.net.au/science/slab/robo/emotional.htm

This website is about robots sense of smell . I still believe that robots are very unique and they do act just like humans, but they are nothin like humans. They are only here on this earth because human scientist created them. They can do all these things, only because a human has programed it to do so. Robots are great, but I don't think that they will ever overcome human life.

PROS and CONS

After finding information about this new innovation, I found that there are some good sides to it and there is also some bad. Many may believe there were can be no bad sides to purifying water, because it is for the better. Purifying the water is saving lives and making the world a better place. But, you must look at the big picture.

Purifying water is great and all, but what if soemthing goes wrong in the process of purifying it. What if the resident that is using the PUR mix, has not mixed it for long enough. What if they did not let it sit long enough after stiring it. Would they take in too much of the chemicals in their body that will harm them? If the water is not purified with the PUR mix, will they be able to drink water at all? These are questions you may ask.

You also may ask, what about the water supply. Well, where are they getting the water from? They are getting the water from the rivers and ponds and that are in the area. This is a bad thing as well, because what if to much water is taken from the river. Will there be enough water available for the life that lives underwater?

Although now you may think that the PUR mix is a bad idea, it really isnt. PUR mix is decreasing the percentage of people having diarrheal disease. It removes a high percentage of DDT, lead, chromium, and many other substances that are bad for the human health. Another good fact about PUR mix is that it is fast and easy. You don't have to wait for the water to be taken to a big water plant to be purified and then given back to you in a week. It is right there ready for you to use.

Only humans can:

breathe

think by themselves

cry

bleed

die

swallow

Robots are man-made creations. Wheelhcairs were invented back in the 6th century. This is the earliest found image of a wheelchair. It is incised in stone on a Chinese sarcophagus. In the 16th century, King Philip II of Spain used an elaborate rolling chair with movable arm and leg rests. In 1700, King Louis XIV used a "roulette" for moving about while recovering from an operation. In the 18th century, the first wheelchair that resembles today's design was created. It had two large front wooden wheels and one caster in rear. In the 19th and 20th centuries, following the American Civil war and World War I, the first wheelchairs were built with wooden frames, wicker seats, adjustable arm rests, footrests, and large spoked wheels. In 1894, a U.S. patent was filed for a wheelchair with a fixed frame, adjustable surfaces, firm wicker seats, and large rear wheels for self-propulsion. In 1932, Herbert Everest (an injured mining engineer) and Harold Jennings (a mechanical engineer) collaborated to design the first folding frame wheelchair. They went on to form the company that is today known as Everest & Jennings or E&J. In 1937, a patent was filed for the x-folding frame wheelchair. Sam Duke also marketed a folding wheelchair at same time. In the 1950s, Everest & Jennings developed the first powered wheelchair. They followed the development of transistor-controlled motors and adapted it to thier interest by adding a motor to their manual wheelchair design. In 1952, the beginning of wheelchair sports occurred with the first games held at the Stoke Mandeville Rehabilitation Center in England. In 1964, the first Paralympic games were held in Tokyo, Japan. In 1975, Bob Hall was the first person on a wheelchair to compete the Boston Marathon. In 1970/80, revolution in lighter weight manual chairs driven by the need and desires of wheelchair athletes. In the 1980s, microprocessor-controlled powered wheelchairs were developed, which allowed customization of controls to meet the needs of more user needs. In 1980-90s, the revolution in powered wheelchair design, control, styles, range or travel distance, suspension, maneuverability, seating and other user options.

Now, in the year 2003, a student from the University of Pittsburgh has developed a new wheelchair device to help the disabled. Viajay Kumar's wheelchair model has computer controlled arms that can pull the chair up and over obstacles such as a stair or a curb. When the chair returns to level ground, the arms fold out of the way, keeping the advantages of wheels. Kumar says that it is controlled by a keyboard right now, but it can easily be made into a joystick-controlled onboard system.

In the future, I think that we won't even have a need for wheelchairs. I think that everyone will be able to fly. We will all use devices to get to place to place. This way no one will feel left out in anyway. All will have a flat plastic board to stand on and there will be feet locks on it. Then there will be a motor added to it that can help you fly.

Rangel, Josefa. Bye By is also a new chemical that is used to clean dangerous waters in other countries. The difference between Bye By and PUR mix is that PUR other cleans about 95 percent DDT, 98 percent of lead, and 99 percent of chromium in water. Bye By mix disinfects 100 percent of anything. Dirt, germs, and diseases. It even kills any insects that are in the water.
Bye By as been tested in many different locations. Places in Africa and Europe are just a few examples. Residents from this area have said that Bye By works better than PUR mix says Jim Brown from Health Care Center of Water in Missouri. To use Bye By all you have to do is put a 10-mL pill into a 20-liter of river or any other water. Let the pill dissolve in the water. You will be able to see the Bye By do its magic. Bubbles will start to form in the liter and then they will dissapper. Once all the bubbles are gone, all the nasty gunk and infected water are gone. This process takes up to only 10 minutes.
Although PUR mix and Bye By work the same, they are different in many ways. Bye By is much faster than PUR. It also can cleanses more water with one pill. You don't even have to open any packets or even have to stir it yourself. Also, the percentage of all the germs being gone is a higher percentage!

After going on my paper chase, I choose an article from Science News called Germs Begone by J. Raloff. This article is about a new technology that cleans dangerous waters. It is called PUR mix. This new chemical turns even dark, foulsmelling, germ-laden water into a drink as clean as most U.S. tap water, says Stephen Luby of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in Atlanta.
Blench alone is a good disinfectant used to clean water. Although, dirt and other organis gunk are not fully cleansed from the water. This chemical acts just like blench, but better. It can remove 95 percent of the DDT, at least 98 percent of lead, and more then 99 percent of chromium in water samples, Allgood told Science News. This new chemical is also suppose to decrease the diarrheal disease that is primarily in poor sanitated and infected drinking water.
It was tested in may different locations like Guatemala, Kenya, Pakistan, and Blangladesh. Residents were told to stir a 4-gram pakcet of the PUR mix into a 10-liter just of river or other water for 5 minutes, until the dirt and other suspended materials settled out. They were then told to filter out the sediments by pouring the water through tightly woven cloth. Over the next 20 minutes, the water's residual chlorine bleach vanquished germs.

Chrissy,

Good work on the MOO. If you include some more descriptions, your space would appear more polished and coherent.

good work,
Tanya

                                       The Monster Review

The play Monster, directed by Neal Bell, was written based on the novel Frankenstein by Mary Shelley. There is a big difference between the novel and the play. I enjoyed the play much better than the book, because of the lighting, sounds, acting, and the directing of the play. With all the different effects, the play was brought to life and that made me have a better feel for the actions that were taking place.
In the play, Victor (Jeffries Thaiss), tries to play God and makes his own creation. He creates a monster (Christopher Lane) with the use of lightening and the power of his own hands. Having to use his own hand to create the monster, showa a connection between the monster and Victor. The monster can not live without Victor.
In this adaptation, sex played a very big role in the play. In the novel, sexuality was not seen at all. Sex in the play brought life, love, and connections. The sexier scenes in the play were the ones that stood out the most. One example is when Victor kisses his close friend Clerval (Paul Morella). Another example is when the monster asks the astonishing question of why he has a cock. When the monster kisses Clerval is another example. There are many other sexual scenes throughout the play. These scenes made the play more interesting to watch.
The lighting and the sound in the play was great! Without those effects, the play would have been plain and boring. There was great sound effects of thunder, lightening, wind, animals, and little scary pieces that were put together, to get you ready for what was about to happen next.
The lighting brought the play “to life”. When lightening storms were in place, the lighting would get darker and you could see flashes of light in the back round. That added with the sounds, brought great effects to the play.
Overall, I liked the play. The director wrote a great version of Frankenstein. There were great twists in the play, compared to the novel. In the novel, everything is mellow and there is no comedy. There was great comedy throughout the entire play. The one thing I didn’t like about the play was the costumes of the actors. They looked as if they weren’t finished or that the designer just threw something together. The costume designer tried to keep within the time of when the novel was written, but it didn't work. Also, I didn’t really like the ending very much. Maybe because there was a technical difficulty during the end of the play. If there wasn’t, maybe there would have been a better ending. To me it seemed to plain and not finished.

<img width='1' height='1' What do you mean by "self energy"? Do you mean "shows"? Work on the flow of the second paragraph. Tell me if you liked the sexual scenes and why or why not. The lighting and sound 'were' great. This can be one paragraph. Tell me more about the diffrences between the play and the book (you need a paragraph summerizing the action of the play). Tell me why you didn't like the costumes. Consider telling me in the first paragraph that you liked the play then say because...lighting, sound, acting, directing (overall -stage pictures), set (add this), etc.
:) Nadja

Playbill

The reason why there is a trial is because of the murder of William Frankenstein. Justine is accused of this murder.

My name is Chrissy Hines and I have been directing for about five years now. I have written stories, poems, and other works. I like to focus on the lighting, sound, and acting when I direct actual scenes. A scene can not be a good, unless a good actor/actress performes it the correct way. With attitude and drama.
The lighting and the sound is also very important to me. Normally, when I watch a play, I want the full effect. I want to feel like I am apart of the scene. With different lighting and sounds to go with the performance, the scene can be brought to live, and all can enjoy.
I also like more modern dialog. It is much more easier to understand. I also like comedy, so most of my works have comedy present in them. This scene that I did from the novel Frankenstein, is a dramatic scene, so there is no comedy present. I wrote it dramatically, so that the audience was able to feel each characters pain throughout the scene.

I casted the part of Justine, to a new unknown, soon to be known, actress named Rebecca Walt. She is from Pittsburgh, Pa. She is only nineteen years old, eventhough she may look alot older. The reason I picked her as my Justine was because she had a great look of innocence on her face. She was perfect for the part!
I wanted Becca to perform as if she was a little child, pleading everyone to let her go. She had the great idea of making herself calm. She said that it would she her womenly side if she were to just act calm and let the punches roll. She was right!

For the character Elizabeth, I casted Jennifer Greene. She is a well-known actress in LA. She has been in the business since she was six years old. She has performed in many plays and have been in many movies throughout the years. I've known Jen for years. She is very dramatic and that's what I like about her.
Jen at first, wanted to play her role of Elizabeth as if she were a young teenager, trying to find an answer, but she changed her mind. She wanted Elizabeth to be seen as a young women, who had her head on her shoulders, and someone who liked to show her emotions.

The character Victor was played by Shawn Wills. He is one of the best male actors I have ever seen perform. He makes you feel so alive and has a wonderful personality. Shawn wanted to play the character of Victor as being a weak man. Someone who never takes care of his responsibilities and lets others suffer on his behave. He even change his way of walking to bring out the characters laziness.

I just would like to thank everyone that has helped me throughout the years. All of my backstage crew who has been here for me from the beginning. For my family and friends who put up with me. To the many costume designers, lighting designers, sound designers, stage managers, technical director, scenic designer. Just everyone. Thank you for all your help and support and God bless.

                                       The Monster Review

The play Monster, directed by Neal Bell, was written based on the novel Frankenstein by Mary Shelley. If there wasn’t, maybe there would have been a better ending.

1. After exploring FrankenMoo, I found that the Trail of Terror was interesting. I liked it because it was the first place that I went into. You have to get a ticket, in order to start the story of the trail. It was fun to experience that for the first time.

2. Two different places in the Moo that I found interesting was in Felix's hut and in Summer01. They are both under the same link of Trials, but they are about very different things. Felix's hut is about weither or not you will befriend the monster or attack him and the Summer01 room is about a project that students have to do. They had to create an environment that interacted with the novel. It also links them to so many other opinions. There is so much variety in these Moos.

3. In the Courtroom they talk about the justice system. It is about the trial of Justine. They ask us weither we think she should be aquited or or hung. Well it is just and unjust. Everyone can make there own decision. Victor is unjust in the ways that he treats his monster. He created him. Its his responsiblity and he must take care of it. If he was gonna be that scared of it, he should've tried to make it prettier. Victor should have stopped trying to play God and should have thought about his actions before he did them.

4. My favorite command is @join then the persons name.

My plans for my flash project on my poem We Real Cool by Gwendolyn Brooks, is it first have the poem fly onto the screen and make it fade out. This poem is about the life experience of someone who has dropped out of school and now stays on the street. They are the "pool players" at the Golden Shovel. They believe that they are "too cool for school" and stay out late at night. They do sinful actions and laugh it off. From their actions that they undergo, they die soon. The word June in this poem is a great metaphor. June is the time in the year when you relax. It is half of a year. If you die in June, then you are dying soon.
Since this is a short poem, there is alot of information packed into it. It would be good if you read it more than once. Reading the poem more than once, can give you a better understanding of the poem. Each time you read it, different perspectives of the poem will come to you.
This poem also creates great images in you mind. All have experienced this in some way. Weither by knowing someone who has experienced this, or seeing it on tv. This is great because you can actually get a picture in you head, and have better understanding.
This poem also has a certain flow to i . It's just like a song when you read it. The rhyming in the poem gives it a great rhythm. It's like a song.
After presenting this poem to my classmates, many different ideas about the meaning of the poem came to me. Now when rereading the poem, the meaning could be tha maybe someone didn't drop out of school. Maybe it is about someone who has graduated from college, and now must make a life decision. Their decision was the wrong one.

We Real Cool By Gwendolyn Brooks

THE POOL PLAYERS.
SEVEN AT THE GOLDEN SHOVEL.

We real cool. You've picked one of my favorite poems by one of my favorite poetesses. Try a couple of things in your revision that might help you make your writing a little stronger.

1. Rewrite your piece without using "I" or writing in the first-person--this will make your analysis more about your poem and less about your personal reaction to it. This will be hard, but worth it.

2. Rewrite your paragraphs all in order so that they flow as one piece.

3. You make many great comments when you say:
When you read it, you can feel a certain flow to it. Poetry with slang, to me, makes you think more. Since this is a short poem, there is alot of imformation in the poem, so you should read it more than once. You can understand the poem better, as well as, form better images in your mind, if you read a poem more than once.
For each of these three ideas (1) Poetry with slang, (2) short poems, (3) multiple readings, write a little more explaining what you mean and give examples from the poem including quotes from the poem itself.

The poem We Real Cool by Gwendolyn Brooks caught my eye because, I liked the way it was written. Her poem was called This Living Hand by John Keats. It is a great poem about how the usage of your hands is very important. If you use your hands wisely, then you can help others. This poem is very positive and after reading it you learn a lesson. The lesson is to help others. Don't just be passive when others are in need. Help others so they can feel your "living hand." This made me think of my poem because after you read it you do learn what not to do.

I also like the poem that my other classmate, Leslie, choose. It was called The Road Not Taken by Robert Frost. This poem is about making life decision. This poem made me think of my poem and influenced me. Maybe my poem isn't about someone dropping out of school. Maybe mine is about someone who is now out of school, and now must make life decisions on their on. Instead of getting a job or doing something with their life, they are just hanging out. They may be choosing this decision because many people don't expect him to do so. Or maybe, he is following others.

The poem We Real Cool by Gwendolyn Brooks caught my eye because, I liked the way it was written.
